Dr. Mardis is originally from Florence, AL and is a University of North Alabama graduate. He surrendered to the call to preach in 1981 at the Highland Baptist Church. After serving two staff positions in the Shoals area, Dr. Mardis began pastoring his first church in 1985. The Mardis' later moved to Memphis, TN, where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in ministry from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Mid-America in May of 2002.

He and Michelle have four school-aged children. He has served churches in Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, and South Carolina.

Here in Scottsboro, he has helped to establish Agape Baptist Church. From the ground up, Agape has been built solely on principles from God's word. Since its beginning in 1999, God has used Dr. Mardis to lead the church in calling multiple staff, sending out ministers from within, and - most recently - purchasing 27 acres of land and moving into a permanent building.

Even with his successful record in terms of numbers and accomplishments, his greatest joy is to reach
"just one more for Jesus".
