Roger is a native of Florence, Alabama where he attended Coffee High School and the University of North Alabama. It was during his college days that he met and later married Michelle. The Mardis’ have four children: Andrew, Zach, Stephen, and Mae Beth.
Roger was saved in 1980 and he surrendered to preach a year later. He has been serving the Lord through the local church ever since. In 1989, the Mardis family moved to Memphis so Roger could complete his seminary (MDiv) training at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Roger graduated in 1991 and then again in 2002 with his Doctorate in Pastoral Ministries/Preaching.
Dr. Mardis has served churches in four states and has been a resident of Scottsboro since 1997. After moving to Scottsboro, Roger began Agape Baptist Church. He has been our only pastor. It is obvious to us that Roger has a heart for the Lord, His Word, and the souls of people. Preaching, missions, and evangelism are his hearts desire.
Roger’s life verse is Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes…”
In his leisure, he enjoys time with his family and working in his yard… and of course, some Alabama football.
